Carolina Crete on HubPages
I'm from the UK but have spent the past 20 years living on the beautiful Greek island of Crete and married into a Cretan family.
I run an information website and forum to help those who are thinking of moving to Crete or Greece www.livingincrete.net and in 2006 I published the guide book "Living in Crete" available from Amazon.co.uk.
In the last few years Crete has become a property, retirement and travellers hotspot but tales of problems are commonplace, usually due to lack of pre-planning. I like to lay bare some of the realities of living on a Greek Island including potential pitfalls, bureaucratic procedures, work opportunities and local culture, thus arming would-be expats, property buyers or travellers with the information they need to make a success of their adventure, or helping them decide to stay put if they have unrealistic expectations... It's not all 'living the dream'.
You could say I have an ulterior motive - trying to put off the overpopulation of this lovely island ;)
During the summer months I manage a small but busy tourism programme in Crete, and when I have the time (!) I enjoy travelling, writing, reading and the internet.
