Best Way To Lose Weight
51Best Way To Lose Weight
Being overweight is not only a health hazard, it's also known to cause mental and emotional anguish on the person. Loss of self-confidence, diminished self-esteem, creeping self-doubts, nagging self pity, failing to believe in one's self... these are just some of the negative effects of those nasty extra pounds.
Truly, we can say that losing weight won't only benefit our physical health, it will greatly uplift our emotional wellbeing as well.
To start losing weight, one must first break the vicious cycle that defines most weight gain cases. When a person gains extra pounds, her tendency is to feel depressed. And when a person feels depressed, her tendency - more often than not - is to overeat. The pleasures of eating, as they say, is a form of release, and one is truly sad, there is much that's needed to be released.
Hence, more weight will be gained by the person who has already gained some weight.
Knowing this cycle is the first step in avoiding the same. And what are the other steps in weight loss?
The Universal Basics Of Weight Loss Programs
The South Beach Diet, Dr. Atkins' Diet, Dean Ornish's Eat More Weight Less, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, The Zone... these are the popular weight loss programs in this day and age. They all differ in methodologies. They all differ in their respective approach. They all differ when it comes to the prominent personalities who endorse them.
But they all share something in common with the thousands of other weight loss programs in history.
They are anchored on the 2 basics of weight loss:
1. Proper diet; and 2. Regular exercise
One cannot simply exist without the other. They both complement each other. If only one of them is observed, and weight loss will only be short term. To sustain the ideal weight achieved, both of these basics must be followed rigorously.
Why are they important?
It's because the key to weight loss is rapid metabolism. Metabolism refers to the body's ability to break down calories so that they don't have to turn into fats. The faster your body burns calories, the less calories will remain that will build up into fats. Weight loss, especially sustained weight loss, is all about increasing the pace of the subject's metabolism.
Regular exercise increases the rate of metabolism. Proper diet limits the intake of calories. Ergo, less calories taken, less calories to burn for a smooth running metabolizing system, less weight to gain, more weight to lose.
The Problems With Weight Loss
The problems with weight loss aren't really with regards to the various programs nor the basics from which they are derived.
The problems with weight loss are more about the stumbling blocks that people encounter once they commence with a program of their choice. Let's take a look at some of them.
- Negative thoughts about losing weight. Some people doubt the efficiency of weight loss programs. Some people doubt their own resolve. "I can't lose weight" or "I'm hopeless" are just some of the unhelpful ideas pervading in their minds. These negative thoughts should be quelled. It's simply not the right mindset to adapt. Be positive! If you don't think you can do it, you won't be able to do it.
- Deal with restrictions. Weight loss programs will be restrictive to a certain degree, that's a given. Whether they'll restrict you from eating certain delights, or they'll restrict you from pursuing leisurely activities so that you can focus on workouts, the fact remains that a percentage of your liberties will be curtailed. Do not let these restrictions bring you down. Do not let these restrictions get the better of you. Always remind yourself of the reason why you want to lose weight. Let that be your shining star in moments when all looks bleak.
- Demoralization with results. Weight loss programs work. If they can trim down the weight from a 300 pound man so that he'd come at a magnificent 180 lbs., then there's no reason why these programs won't be able to help you. The problem is, most people expect immediate results. Weight loss doesn't happen overnight. It'll take months, even years, before significant reductions can be enjoyed. If you belong to the impatient lot, try this trick: focus on realistic goals at first, say for example, losing 1 to 2 lbs. per week. This way, you'll be able to break down your main goal into a series of smaller, more doable goals which will bring to you a sense of satisfaction each and every time.
- Losing faith. Because weight loss programs demand an investment of time, some people simply lose their focus and interest. Some cease to believe, altogether. The process of losing weight is filled with small bits of successes that, when joined together, will work towards attaining your ultimate goal. Take note of these small successes, i.e. being able to resist the sweet temptation of a chocolate bar, being able to increase your workout reps by 2, etc. Read them from time to time. Revel. This will make you feel good about what you have accomplished.
Quick Tips For Efficient Weight Loss
Every weight loss program starts with a declaration of goals. If you're part of a program already, adhere to these goals. If you're trying to lose weight by yourself, state your own goals.
How much weight do you want to lose?
How much time are you giving yourself to trim down that much weight (give a REALISTIC approximation)?
How much effort are you willing to give to make this a reality.
Changing your eating habit is sure to follow next. Some programs won't require you to cut down the amount of food you take in everyday, as they don't want to mess up your body's metabolism. Some programs, however, will require you to stick with their diet plan.
As much as possible, however, don't skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as a lot of the energy you need for the day's grind will come from food you will eat in the morning. Reduce the amount of food you eat during dinner, however, and as much as possible, try to take an early one.
Develop your muscle mass. Muscles will increase the amount of calories you can burn while working out. Muscles will also allow you to burn calories while your body's resting. Resistance training is the best way to develop muscles that will improve your body's metabolism.
Lastly, sleep well. Not only will proper sleep reinvigorate your body, but regular sleep will likewise improve your body's metabolizing properties.

Hey, great advice!
I had a "Wendy's" diet plan that I was advocating, and when I saw your username, thought that's what you were going to talk about.
The key to weightloss, like you mentioned, is eat a healthy breakfast, build your muscle mass, try not to eat in the evening, and get plenty of sleep.
