Updated on September 7, 2016

Spike Lee Movie Producer

Shelton Jackson "Spike" Lee was born on March 20, 1957. Spike Lee is an American Film Director, Producer, Writer, and Actor. And in many African Americans eyes Spike Lee is a Civil Rights Leader. His mother nick-named him Spike because as a child he was tough by nature. The school he attended was Morehouse College in Atlanta Georgia and he developed his film making skills at Clark Atlanta University. After Spike Lee graduated from Morehouse College, he also attended Tisch School of Arts graduate film program. Spike Lee went on to produce a 45 minute film Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads in 1983, which won a student academy award.

Spike Lee's film "Do the Right Thing" was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1989. Driving Miss Daisy won Best Picture that year, and Spike Lee says this hurt him more than his film not receiving the nomination. On May 2, 2007, the 50th San Francisco International Film Festival honored Spike Lee with the San Francisco Film Society's Directing Award.

Get On the Bus (movie)

Many Spike Lee fans began watching Spike Lee films since the movie "Do the Right Thing." And another great classic movie of his is "Get on the Bus," this movie was based on a group of men going to the Million Man March, it's inspirational and down to earth. There are talented actors in this movie like: Bernie Mac, Ossie Davis, Hill Harper, De'Aundre Bonds (my cousin), and a few other talented actors. This movie should be added to people's household of movie classics. The documentary "When the Levees Broke" is a film on actual real live footage of the Hurricane Katrina Citizens; August 2005. When I watched this film it touched me, and I learned quite a bit about the character of the President of our country at that time.

The Actor De'Aundre Bonds is also a Rapper; he has a few rap songs. One of his hits is named 1st Round Pick.

This documentary needs to be seen by all types of people: poor, rich, black, white, all nationalities of people. When the Levees Broke, is a documentary film made in 2006 and directed by Spike Lee about the horrific devastation of New Orleans, Louisiana due to the controversial break of the levees during Hurricane Katrina. In late August and early September 2005, this documentary premiered at the New Orleans Arena on August 16, 2006 and was first aired on HBO that following week. The film shows the New Orleans citizens in the middle of disaster seeing deaths, disaster and diseases. In a statement made by director Spike Lee about the film he states, "New Orleans is fighting for its life." This film will focus on the grieving reality of Hurricane Katrina as well as the amazing uplifted spirit of New Orleans.
