Somalia On The Spotlight, After 15years of Missery

Its been over fifteen wonderous years, filled with many hurdles, spelledout amongst all Somalis. Whether you are in a refugee camp in Utanga,Kenya., or back home starving, if not escaping bullets, this were the time that we will most remember. However, the outside world, Somalia is finally becoming an issue. For the first time, the world is starting to be concerned, but not so sweet concern.

See, after Blackhawk Down ordeal, the U.S. left Somalia and never looked back. And soon after, the United Nations abandon it. Since then, there were no aids,no foreign help, nothing. If anything, its seashore's became nuclear-wasteland for the worlds great powers. However, recently its been getting attention, after a group known as the Islamic Courts Union, infiltrated the warloads and were able to establish some sort of peace and calmness. The ICU consists of religious leaders, who impose the Sharia Law. The Sharia law is nothing new amongst Somali and is part of the culture. The ICU has in the past month captured majority of the lands that were under the control of warlords, and sometimes lawless areas.

Then you the Somali Government, which was created by Ethiopia and its colleagues, including U.S.A. Some members of the SG, were warloads who have been shading the blood of their own for the past 15yrs, and that include the president elect. Ethiopia, on the other hand, is envolve in this whole ordeal because of two reasons. First, President Zenawi wants to scapegoat his internal problems, and instead wage a war to obsecure all ese that is going on his country. His approval rating is low, from years of dictatorship. Secondly, it has a cold war going on with Eritrea which was formerly part of Ethiopia.

The funny part about all this, is the U.S. positions. Instead of taking look at facts, Sen. Feingold of Wisconsin was pressing at this issues because he thought Somalis is going to be the next Iraq. And I probably agree with him, if the U.S didnt bother other people's business negatively, then there would have no Iraq situation. Therefore he is right, but all the connection to Alqaeda, and Islam exrimism in Somalia, is an irrelavant subject at this point. The fact still stands, that for 15yrs, Somalia was abandone, and for anyone to come now and disrupt any peace process is nonesense. For the first time, the Somali Community isn't as devided on this issue. Majority of the Somali's I know and have met, support the Islamic Court Union. And it is simply because of their accomplishment, and understanding of our people's need. The government put together by their Hyprcate counter parts, is not going to fly. Because unlike the accidental election of G.Bush, the Somali people will never accept a blood-thirsty warlod who took the lives of many inoccents. Never that!
