As you may or may not know, I do not like BUGS! This is another story from my youth. Keep in mind that I have always has long hair. I hope you enjoy!

My mother worked at a laundromat for many years. It was convenient because she could take me with her and still make money.

This particular summer evening, I did all the usual things that I did to pass the time like playing in the parking lot and roller skating in circles around the washers inside the laundromat. (see laundromat pic)

Yes, they were roller "skates" not roller "blades" as they have now.

Now it was time to go and sit on the picnic table which was just inside the back door(see pic) while mom did the mopping just like I always did.

As I said, it was summer, so the doors were open because there was no air conditioning.

While sitting there watching mom mop the floors, I felt something in my hair. Not knowing what it was, I put my hand through my hair to get it out and......

June Bug- YUCK!

....I ran at full circle around the that place, screaming at the top of my lungs, arms flinging as if they were set on fire and head shaking back and forth as if I was trying to shake my head off my shoulders.

My mother was finally able to grab me and ask me what was wrong. I couldn't run because she was in front of me so I tried as hard as I could to tell her that something in my hair was moving, while I was still flinging my arms and doing the "hurry up and get it off of me" dance.

NOTE: The "hurry up and get it off me" dance is similar to the "keep it away from me" stomp which you can read about here

Mom must have understood me because she grabbed the piece of my hair, right where the bug was and got it out of my hair.

It wasn't just as simple as getting the bug out of my hair though. While mom was getting the bug out of my hair, she was laughing her butt off.

Once it was out, through her laughter, she said, "It's just a June Bug."

She was laughing even harder now! I was certain that this June Bug had given her a new found kind of joy.....laughter at my expense! I was certain that she was going to wet herself, but she escaped giving me the joy of laughter at her expense.

Just a June Bug, to my mother, was and is a gross little creature, invading the space that belongs to me. No creepy, crawly things are allowed to invade my space - EVER! Although they often break the rules and join me in my personal space, my bubble, if you will, they rarely do it without giving someone the gift of laughter.

I hope that I have given you the gift of laughter today!

Go ahead and laugh at my expense because laughter is free and it's best when given away!

Ok, I laughed, or at least a snicker, at your expense. Also, brought along a gift! Just to say no hard feeling about the "Kidnapped" hubs. Yeah, a peace offering...

Lots of have danced that dance, me with the spider, you with the june bug, growing up in New Mexico, I'm very familiar with these sticky bugs...they are very hard to get out of hair...you have to "roll" them out which means touch them which means scream.

eeeek I identified with this hub...let the guys laugh, we know how to scream!

Marisue,

So that is why it didn't come out when I ran my fingers through my hair and mom had to get it out...Yuck!

Yes we do know how to scream!

By the way did you get a chance to read the mouse hub? I hope you do not mind what I did! What I said there is true, but if you do not like it, I will remove it.

Cute hub - and I share your eeekiness for june bugs. We get lots of them where I live this time of year. When they are out, usually flying into my screen door in squadrons of what I perceive to be in the biliions, it REALLY freaks me out. Crunch crunch when I have to step outside.....ICK!

I did enjoy your June bug story-- I always thought they were sort of interesting, though I never had one in my hair. They are stickery little grabbers. You set the scene for your story very well.

Hi Pam,

I can't imagine that many of them around me, Yuck! I wouldn't want to go outside at all. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I have just been reading some of your hubs and will be reading more.

Marisue,

Yep, I sure did. I am glad that it is ok with you. The few that I put there have in some way touched me with their writing and in the process helped me with my own writing. You are very welcome.

Constant,

Ans paint each others nails too....lol
